Media Release: May 13, 2021, Belmopan – This week, CARIFORUM countries got together to advance the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the water sector to build water resilience against climate change. The activity is led by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, as part of a global programme of the Intra ACP, Global Climate Change Alliance Plus (GCCA+), which is funded by the European Union (EU).
During the 2-hour long session on May 11, participants from water utilities, water resource agencies (both national and regional), and other regional partners with interest in enhancing climate resiliency in the Caribbean’s water sector weighed in to validate various protocols to establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the water sector. The SOPs cover critical areas such as:
The workshop was hosted by consultants from SOFRECO, who presented the salient attributes of the SOPs and secured validation from regional stakeholders in attendance.
The workshop ended on a high note with copious thanks expressed by participants, and in particular, by Ms Susana Fuertes of the European Union (EU), who acknowledged all participants joining the validation exercise and reiterated the support of the EU for the development of the SOPSs for the water sector.
