Belmopan, Belize – The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) has been awarded the UK–Belize Climate & Nature Legacy Award 2026, earning top honours in the Policy & Governance Impact and Innovation in Climate Action & Diplomacy categories.
These awards were presented at the 2026 UK–Belize Climate & Nature Legacy Awards Ceremony, held under the theme “Celebrating Legacy, Shaping Tomorrow,” recognizing outstanding contributions to climate action, environmental protection, and the strengthening of UK–Belize partnerships.
The CCCCC’s recognition reflects the power of coordinated climate action across the Caribbean, including strong partnerships, from government ministries to communities, working together toward shared climate resilience goals. The CCCCC’s role is to support Member States in translating policy into practical impacts that improve lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems across the Caribbean.
Executive Director, Colin Young, PhD, expressed sincere appreciation to the Government and people of the United Kingdom for their continued partnership and support:
“On behalf of the CCCCC, I extend our sincere gratitude to the UK Government and people, who, through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), continue to support climate resilience and climate action in the Caribbean. Through the Small Islands Developing Capacity and Resilience Programme (SIDAR), the UK is providing critical funding support that enables our work to continue to positively impact the lives and livelihoods of Caribbean people through building resilience to the impacts of climate change.”
Dr. Young further noted that the award comes at a critical moment for global climate ambition:
“These awards serve both as a recognition of our work, but they also reinforce the importance of partnership and global leadership in the climate change space especially now, when geopolitics is negatively impacting the global ambition required to keep global temperatures below 1.5°C. We thank the UK for its steadfast support to the CCCCC, the region, and for amplifying the unique vulnerabilities and special circumstances of SIDS in various international fora. Your continued support during these unprecedented times is appreciated and valued. As we look ahead, we remain committed to working alongside Caribbean policymakers and stakeholders to deliver the adaptive solutions our region urgently needs in the face of accelerating climate change.”
This achievement reflects the collective effort behind the CCCCC’s work and is a testament to the dedication of the CCCCC’s staff and the many regional and international partners who work collaboratively to deliver tangible climate solutions across the Caribbean.
