Thursday (September 5th, 2024) marked the successful conclusion of the CCCCC-Grenada Country Coordination Mechanism Requirements session, which began on September 4, 2024. This important session generated from a bilateral meeting on July 11, 2024, during which the Government of Grenada expressed interest in establishing a mechanism for effectively managing CCCCC’s programs in the country and enhancing communication.
Permanent Secretary Perron Johnson for the Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy (MoCRERE) emphasized the renewed commitment between the two parties towards integrating the CCCCC portfolio into Grenada’s national processes and highlighted the aim of the partnership, “The Grenada CCCCCs Country Coordinating Mechanism meeting concluded with a renewed commitment between the Government of Grenada and the CCCCC towards the integration of the portfolio into Grenada’s national processes. The partnership aims to strengthen climate resilience across sectors. Key stakeholders outlined actionable strategies to enhance climate adaptation, mitigation efforts, and sustainable development. The meeting emphasized collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the need for effective workflow to ensure Grenada’s preparedness for climate-related challenges.”
Ms. Diane Wade-Moore, Head of the Project Development and Management Department at CCCCC, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to working collectively with the Government of Grenada by stating, “The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre joins the Government of Grenada in innovating to turn climate change challenges into opportunities. We remain committed to working collectively with the Government in their pursuit of a portfolio of projects that employs a whole of society approach in addressing adaptation and resilience building.”
The session aimed to establish a robust country coordination mechanism (CCM) promoting healthy partnerships to effectively design and implement the suite of projects supported by the CCCCC.
Permanent Secretary Merina Jessamy from the Ministry of Economic Development emphasized the significance of this high-level dialogue, stating, “Participation in the country coordination mechanisms was a very essential process because it highlights not only the whole-of-government approach, the whole-of-society approach, but to really demonstrate inclusiveness for all stakeholders to understand their roles and responsibilities.” She expressed confidence in the coordination mechanism’s potential, asserting, “With the mechanisms we discussed and agreed to, we will be able to increase our implementation rate. We will be able to demonstrate that the priorities for projects that we will submit will be aligned with the national priorities.”
